It was one of those rainy days on the planet of Relèvement. The de-icing age planet, home of the industries of the republic due to its climate and vast water supplies. The capital of the planet, Maynila was named in honor of one of the cities that were once on the planet of Hasan, it was essentially a metropolis akin to the great cities of old with never-ending construction and industrial output ongoing. It was here that the story begins about a handler and a future asset in which the republic sees great potential. The only question is, how well she can handle the job she’s going to get from her handler.

Poor Major Alex just received his promotion within the intelligence community from the Federal Intelligence Coordinating Agency(FICA). An issue with him tho was that he just lost his assets to the other officers that day too. Mostly because some fucking sultan was causing trouble again on Novo Hassan forcing the agents to gather about and ready things once more. As such he had only one thing to do today…secure someone who will work for him. He messaged this supposed assassin through the means of the dark web and black market, however, he has only heard rumors and minor descriptions. As such he knew this meeting was going to be interesting. We would finally walk into a cafe stepping out of the rain as he would dry himself off and take a seat, looking at the storm that was ongoing.

“Ok, we are at the cafè.” A mature and deep male voice announced the reaching of the destination as he was still driving. The inside of a taxi was not that much illuminated as the weather too didn’t help to see who was the client sitting on the back. But one thing was for sure, one red dot at the height of the presumable face of such client was well visible from the rearview mirror. “Stop a couple meters before.” The rude voice of a young woman, with a slight evident valian accent, ordered the driver.

The man just followed the request as the car halted its course next to the sidewalk, roughly six to seven meters before the cafe entrance. “That would be fifty credits” the arm of the man raised a metallic pad with the payment request displayed, a rubbing of clothes from behind signaled the client taking her card, her gloved hand holding the shining object reached pad, a brief *bip* informed the driver of the end of his service. “Have a good day”.

“Cya” A monotone word was muttered by the client as she exited the vehicle, a tall and muscular figure for what the clothes showed, covered by a dark gray synthetic long cloak and a hood. The sounds of boots splashing on the thin layer of water reached the entrance of the cafe. A long and robust arm appeared from the long cloak and opened the door. The face of the woman yet not well visible turned to scan the entire cafe, and the red dot on her left eye looked to find the contractor.

She then moved to reach her target, as she walked her arms moved away the hood to reveal the face of a young woman. It would have been a quite attractive face if not disfigured by a couple of evident scars, short black hairs, dark green eyes, or at least one, the other was obstructed by an old-style cybernetic monocle, with a red light. In silence the tall woman reached for the table where Alex was and sat at the opposite side. All with a pretty much neutral expression.

Alex would still be looking out into the storm that was ongoing. His build was that of a teen by the looks of it. One could even call it “femboy” or androgynous. He was wearing a simple black get-up with a blue jacket. “So…you’re the one I’ve heard about” he would say as he’d turn his face to look at her. “Well then I guess you know what I’m hiring you for, essentially since I’m going to be managing you here on out if you agree.” Soon enough he would have a sip of coffee that he ordered earlier, it was all dark and black; trying to set the tone here that he was serious. “I suppose the rumors got you interested especially since I’m in need of someone to keep an eye on things for me on another local government’s executive office. Something about the typical political instability. I’m aware you might not like this job entirely but, this is how we are going to introduce you into the organization slowly. If you’re asking for why I’m not doing it personally, it’s because of my position. I’ll help you here and there but it will be the two of us mostly unless I can get more things under my control.” After saying that he would take another sip. “So…tell me a bit about yourself; I want the truth, no lies.”

When he turned and her eyes met, she couldn’t but think in the back of her mind *cute*. Her only visible eye slightly widened for a moment to return normal… meaning a very dead serious glance. As Alex continued to speak the young woman listened carefully and weighed carefully each of his words.

As he finished his explanation and questions she raised an eyebrow “Before I speak I need to ask you a question, depending on your answer I may or may not speak here. If this didn’t cross your mind, we are in a public place. I personally thought this was just a meeting point to then move to other more ideal locations…” She crossed her legs and an unwilled bump could be heard from beneath the table which made her blush for a moment, her height and build was above average and the furnitures were meant for the average. “...ahem” She cleared her throat, a way to scatter away any discomposure “... I can isolate ourselves right now from the rest, but this needs your confirmation.” She tilted her head slightly while looking at him “Can i?”

“You are right about this place. Though you do underestimate the resources we have.” he would say as he’d take another sip. “You can guess why it’s a bit too casual here and no one is batting an eye.” He would look around just watching everyone mind their own business and such, crossing his legs and relaxing on the chair. “So have you made your guess?” he would say as he’d take a sip of coffee once more. “I will admit, I like your observation, but it seems like you’re also missing another thing here.”

She smirked, then closed her eye “I guess this is unnecessary.” She moved her hand to detach the cybernetic monocle, clearing the view for her left eye. She looked back at him “My name is Giuliana de Vertici, daughter and heir of the de Vertici family, to put it simple, a mafia clan from planet Valia of the inner rim. I have been trained in multiple style of close combats, marksmanship, cover operations, assassinations, infiltration and cybersecurity programming…” She counted each profession with her fingers “I am twenty two and started my training at six, no relationships, I have a cybernetic neural implant but it is classified.” She made a quote on quote hand gesture as she said classified “And i like spaghetti and meat.” That followed by a large smile.

“Hmm very well….alright then, did you figure out what I was asking you to answer? About what this cafe really is.” he would say as he’d take out his tablet just putting down notes and such. “Valia….never heard of that, I’m curious, is that from the NDC’s worlds or something? It’s not from any of the republic's main capital planets nor that I’m familiar of unless someone decided to try their luck at one of the inhabitable planets.” He would say as he’d continue taking down notes. “Very well, a mafia girl, any loyalties to them still? It’s not like we don’t have mafias being all up and about, it’s just security.” The “boy” would say, at this rate you might as well be questioning what he’s capable of despite looking like a teen.

She rolled her eyes as he hinted to the first question “Do I have to? It’s obvious now isn it?”. Giuliana gave a long sigh before answering with a kind of monotone voice “This place is a cover up for the Republic intelligence.” She raised an eyebrow and smirked looking at him, giving the vibe of *Happy now?*

“Yes so, this place is actually another one of the many places we make use of to some extent.” he would remark quirky. “Glad to see you at least got it despite being a bit slow on the matter. Not ideal since a bit of paranoia often helps one see further into the future.” Soon he’d take another sip of his coffee. “Right as for my previous question, please do answer them.”
“So we have the paranoic type, wouldn’t have notice it behind that cute face of yours.” She leaned towards the table, arms crossed over it. With a big smile she continued “Valia is an integrated planet within the NDC territory, slightly outside the northern fringe of the inner rim, a trade post between Tortuga and the NDC.” She moved her hand to adjust a rebel tuft of hairs and then sighed again looking away for a moment, as her mind brought back memories “As the heir the De Vertici of course i am still in contact with them, my mother desires one specific thing from me but it doesn’t imply the Republic unless you will hire the man i should be meant to hunt. Though since that guy is with his hand covered in big businesses in the outer rim and the deep space it’s hard to track and personally i prefer to further my career. If i’ll find him, I'll do what it i have to, for the family.”

She then shrugged as she was saying something very easy to express. “My family runs enterprises on a local level and their impact is pretty much insignificant on a galactic perspective, you can check for yourselves.” She then smiled again ”That’s it.”

“We will most certainly check on that matter for sure. Well then if I suppose that your loyalty, for now, is for the Republic. Mainly to assist us in our internal affairs, then I see good use over your abilities in the foreseeable future. Especially as we need to deal with some, of our unfortunate political issues.” He would look at the newspaper he was reading putting it down on the table and pointing to the figure that she has to keep an eye on. “That man is Raja Chopra Ban. A prince of the Hibharat Confederacy or well was one till his clan broke off and they are trying to form a new state within the Republic. Right now the government just needs eyes and ears on the Hibharat situation considering they are already collapsing within by the looks of it. As such it’s your duty to see what is going on there and to make sure maybe these people won’t accidentally start some sort of civil war. You understand the circumstances yes?”

She nodded while moving the newspaper towards her, she touched with her gloved hand the material of the pages “Hmm, paper…” She sincerely smiled while humming and speaking within herself “I will individuate the troublesome personalities within the connections of the Raja, do i have to eliminate them or just inform the agency?” She looked back at him and this time the charade of nice smiles was thrown away “And also... how much is the payment?”

“We can discuss the payment down the line. Likely in a couple of million or at least a hundred thousands. Depends on what happens and how well you will treat the ever-evolving situation.” Saying that he took back the newspaper. “So are you in or out, that’s all I’m curious. The door is there if you’re out while if you’re in, well welcome to the rabbit hole.”

“Seems fair.” She smiled again while raising up and moving her hand towards him “I accept. Tell me, what’s your name again, cutey?” Giuliana asked while slightly tilting her head on one side.

“The name is Alex, the flirtations can come later. Right then, I suppose now is the time where I take you to the real ball game.” he would say as he got up. Walking to stand beside her and gesturing to her gracefully as he would pull her chair to help her get up and about. “Follow me.”
